Villa degli Artisti in the heart of Umbria

Entire villa in Canonica, Italy

8 guests • 4 bedrooms • 6 beds • 2 baths

The space
Villa Degli Artisti is an elegant stone farmhouse (280 square meters) arranged on three floors, with internet, Wi-Fi and a private swimming pool. The property can comfortably accommodate up to eight people in four bedrooms with two bathrooms.

The surrounding space preserves a vast olive plantation, to which a series of plants and flowers have been juxtaposed for decorative purposes, especially around the pool, which is also designed to adapt to the architectural-landscape conformation that surrounds it.

The house is located just 3 km away from Canonica and only 51 km away from Perugia.

The Villa degli Artisti is located in the most panoramic place in Tuderte, with a 360-degree view of the hills, mountains and surrounding villages. The area, whose center of reference is therefore the city of Todi, was already considered by a Columbia University survey in the 1980s to be “the most livable place in the world”. But it was before that date that the most cultivated “citizens of the world” (travelers, artists, various operators in the world of culture…) already chose it as a place of residence, relaxation, and stimulation of creativity.

Within walking distance of the house are, to give just a few examples, the medieval monastery renovated by the Italian artist Piero Dorazio and the farmhouse also renovated in the same years (’70s) by the American artist Nicolas Carone.

The Villa is therefore at the center of a network of beauties, recalling that the owners, Deborah Masters, an important American artist, and Geoffrey Wilcox, have taken care of the restoration themselves. The property has been arranged as it is seen and lived in now by renovating a large country house and adapting the large land of the property that surrounds it. The restoration was undertaken with respect for the architectural, historical and aesthetic conformation of the Umbrian-Tuscan farmhouses, although readjusting the large interiors of each bedroom and leaving almost intact a large living room-kitchen that is connected to the outside by an original staircase and a small porch; another porch of much larger dimensions, used for outdoor meals, is located on the opposite side of the farmhouse and equipped with a barbecue.

The Villa degli Artisti is furnished with furniture and furnishings related to the housing culture in which it is immersed, with parks and meditated insertions of some valuable modern furniture and with a series of contemporary works of art by the owner and her circle of artists. In any case, it should be emphasized that the combination of the taste and beauty of traditional elements and contemporary inserts has never lost sight of the need to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
